Duck Sauce Serve Up Surefire Christmas Party Hit ‘aNYway’
‘aNYway’ by Duck Sauce looks like it will be the big floor filler for the upcoming Christmas party season. Think ‘Music’ by French geezers Stardust re-hashed for the naughties.
Duck Sauce are the unlikely coupling of veteran remixer to the stars Armand Van Helden and clebrity DJ stroke Baltimore Mash-up maverick A-Trak. Van Helden and A-Trak have sampled the 1979 Disco classic “I Can Do It (Anyway You Want)” by US act Final Edition and stuck the loop on top of a House track that owes more than a nod to Stardust’s ‘Music (Sounds Better With You)’.
‘aNYway’ has the same euphoric stabs of funky guitar that made ‘Music’ stick in your ears long after the song is over. The trick works again on ‘aNYway’. It’s like an image burned into your retina. It’s cheesy, it’s clunky, it’s been done before, but it’s highly addictive. In short, ‘aNYway’ is the kind of tune that could be played a few times at your next Christmas party.
Van Helden shot to fame in the mid-1990’s with his Filters ‘n’ Strings House smash ‘You Don’t Know Me’. If you want to start digging in the man’s back catalogue, check out the criminally overlooked follow-up to ‘You Don’t Know Me’, the sublime Deep House track ‘Flowerz’.
Canadian DJ Alain Maklovitch, aka A-Trak, is a former Technics/DMC and Vestax World Champion and Kanye West’s prefered tour DJ. He has previously worked with rapper Kid Sister and B-more party mash-up kings Tittsworth and Ayres.
The regular video for ‘aNYway’ is a so-so 70’s spoof. The Surface 2 Air version of the video borrows freely from the pottery porn scene in ‘Ghost’ and is way more funny.
