Listen to the opening track ‘Horchata’ of the new Vampire Weekend album ‘Contra’ which is due out in January 2010. Read on to access the MP3 player and the full tracklisting.
New York band Vampire Weekend became an overnight success last year with their debut album ‘Vampire Weekend’ which was strongly flavoured by Afro inspired rhythms. The album spawned a couple of indie disco hits like ‘Mansard Roof’, ‘A-Punk’ and ‘Oxford Comma’. The follow up album ‘Contra’ is now ready to hit stores on 11th January 2010 in the UK and 12th January in the US.
The opening track ‘Horchata’ continues the band’s trademark mix of whimsical lyrics, african percussion and sweeping strings but also introduces a stronger electronic element. Is that a response to Animal Collective, whose recent album ‘Merryweather Post Pavillion’ was heavily inspired by the Vampire Weekend sound, I wonder?
‘Horchata’ is available for free download on Vampire Weekend’s official website when you register with the site. Listen to ‘Horchata’ on the MP3 player below:
