On The Radar Column Tracks Up And Coming Artists

Tuneraker is adding a column devoted to artists who only have a single to their name, yet show potential. The On The Radar column kicks off today with Florence & The Machine.

Hands up, how many of you bother with listening to singles? Thought so, that’s why we launch a new column that will highlight acts that are worth of your attention before they got an album’s worth of material together. On The Radar will aim to pick up the Next Big Things early and update you on their progress.

Check On The Radar regularly and find out who to watch. The next time you’ll pass a promising poster for a concert, check the names. Who knows, some of our On The Radar artists might play a low-key gig near you soon.

Wherever possible, we’ll try and give you a convenient source for the music on CD and MP3. Some material may only be available on vinyl, however.

We kick off with London band Florence & The Machine today. Singer Florence Welch sounds a bit like a cross between Chrissie Hynde and Patti Smith on her debut single ‘A Kiss With A Fist’.

Every time a new female singer hits the stage in England the hype-machine goes into overdrive. Usually the debut is disappointingly mild-mannered pap. Not so in this case. You’ll either love it or hate it - particularly the odd cover of the Cold War Kids’ alternative rock hit ‘Hospital Beds’ on the flip side.

On The Radar posts will continue on a weekly basis. We hope you find some new favourites here.
