Radiohead Premier New Song at Irish Gig
UK indie rockers Radiohead premiered a new song live on stage at Malahide Castle in Dublin, Ireland, last Friday. The song ‘Super Collider’ is a mellow, low key number with Thom Yorke on piano. ‘Super Collider’ does not feature on the band’s most recent studio album ‘In Rainbows’.
Radiohead premiered the song on the first date of their European tour Friday 6th June at Malahide Castle outside Dublin, Ireland.
Tuneraker went to see Radiohead playing the perfect soundtrack to a sunny Saturday afternoon the following day. The band was in an upbeat mood and struck up a groove that lasted until well after sunset.
Support act Bat For Lashes seemed an awkward choice to kick off proceedings. Their music lacked the punch needed to capture an Open Air audience on a blistering afternoon. Too much focus on atmospherics and vocal acrobatics but no songs that stick. A quick poll among fellow concert goers resulted in the tag ‘Bjork lite’ for the band’s performance.
The music in the intermission was better suited to the occasion: Reliable 1960s Reggae and Rocksteady hits kept the crowd amused and caused some head-nodding and feet-shuffling.
All in all, an enjoyable gig with Radiohead obviously put at ease by the warm Dublin welcome. Yup, it was smiles all around on stage. A piano got wheeled in for the encore and Thom launched into ‘Super Collider’ - that’s the moment captured in the picture for this post.
