The Mighty Stef Plays Rathmines Festival On Sunday
Just returned from a series of gigs in the US, Dublin rock ‘n’ roll animal The Mighty Stef will lay the stage to waste at The Rathimnes Festival with his band this Sunday, 26th April 2009.
The Mighty Stef, aka Stefan Murphy, and his band play classic New York Punk with the flamboyance of Johnny Thunders and a pinch of blue collar rock a la Springsteen. Stef live is a explosion waiting to happen. It will be interesting to see how he will deal with the material from his current album ‘100 Midnights’, which is a lot more downtempo. In fact, ‘100 Midnight’ sounds positively like the result of a back room session with Johnny Thunders and twisted Torch singer Scott Walker.

This video predates the new album, but it’s still a must see…
The Mighty Stef’s just finished a whistle stop tour of the US last month, which included a couple of gigs at the prestigious SXSW fetsival for alternative music in Austin, Texas. Here’s your chance to catch the show closer to home, down at Slattery’s pub in Rathmines this Sunday.
The Rathmines Festival takes place from today until Sunday, 26th April 2009. Apart from music, the festival features theatre - Pat Kinevane of ‘iKeano’ fame starring in the one person play ‘Forgotten’ - comedy nights, arts exhibitions and more.
