Vampire Weekend Cover With Cool Fifties Guitar Solo
Philadelphia band Canadian Invasion have covered Vampire Weekend’s ‘Mansard Roof’ in a jangly roots rock style, complete with a new Fifties’ rockabilly inspired guitar solo.
The new version does not quite match the original’s frenetic energy, but the Canadian Invasion’s cover has a nice, loose feelgood vibe to it. Use the Mp3 Player at the bottom of this post to listen to Canadian Invasion’s performance of ‘Mansard Roof’, recorded live at the studio of Philadelphia radio station WXPN.
None of the five band members are actually Canadian, but the name stuck somehow and Andy, Jim, George, Eric and Chris are creating pretty time- and place-less power pop. Canadian Invasion have released two albums so far, ‘Songs For The Atco Ghost (2006) and ‘Three Cheers For The Invisible Hand’ (2009).
You won’t find their cover of ‘Mansard Roof’ on any of their albums, so check out this promotional MP3. Just click on the play button below.
