Where do I go on the Web to find New Music?

Whether you are looking for a download or prefer to get your hands on a CD or a slab of vinyl, below you find some links to websites which you might find useful. Many of these sites have been road tested by the Tuneraker team and friends in years of searching for that perfect beat. We may from time to time list sites that look interesting without anyone on the team having ordered any music from them before. In that case, we will let you know.

While we try hard to check links on a regular basis (yes, a lot of records are being bought here at Tuneraker HQ every month…), we cannot accept any responsibility for the content of third party sites that we link to. Tuneraker can further not make any guarantees with regard to the availability or technical functionality of any third party site. Please see our Terms page for more detail on this subject.

Download Music

Music reviews on Tuneraker.com feature deeplinks to the relevant album on iTunes. You can listen to 30 second samples of each album track and download single tracks or entire albums without having to search the massive iTunes archive!

At the end of each review, directly above the ‘We Say’ star rating, you will find an icon that looks like this: . Next to the icon you will see a link highlighted in bold which brings you straight to the relevant page on the iTunes Store site.

If you click on you get to the iTunes Store homepage.

Please note, that you may need to install iTunes software before being able to listen to samples. To download tracks you will further need to open an iTunes account.

Order CDs by Mail Order

Tuneraker reviews feature a deeplink to the relevant album on Amazon.co.uk. If you prefer to own your favourite music on CD rather than a file somewhere on your PC, simply click on the link at the bottom of the review, directly under the Star Rating. You can then order the album from Amazon.

Please note, that prices displayed in reviews for CDs and Vinyl are quoted in £ Sterling.

Links to Specialist Online Retailers

Allround Alternative and Indie Source: Piccadilly Records

A one-stop shop for all who want to look beyond High Street music outlets. You’ll find all the new releases by hip bands from chart toppers to local micro-scene heroes as well as records feeding current music fads. Balearic Disco, Psychedelia - you name it, chances are you’ll find it here. Check out the Piccadilly homepage with a weekly selection of new releases. The selection of CDs and vinyl sits kind of inbetween Phonica (Dance) and Boomkat (Electronica).

Irish Indenpendents: Road Records

Road Records in Dublin operate a mail order business that offers a comprehensive selection of Irish independent releases. Often this will be the first place where Irish releases find an outlet - sometimes likely also the only one. If your mates have made a 7″ vinyl or CD, you’ll find it here. They also stock a wide range of international indie releases with focus on guitar-oriented sounds. If it’s alternative rock you’re after, check out the weekly update of what’s in stock at Road Records.

Electronic Music Specialist: Boomkat

Boomkat in Manchester specialises in Electronica and also has a strong Alternative/New Folk catalogue. They have a wide, eclectic selection of sounds and if you are looking for anything leftfield, your chances are quite good that you might find it here, from 1960s avantgarde out of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, over German minimal techno and Japanese noise core to the latest Dubstep plates from Bristol or Croydon. Boomkat sells vinyl and CDs by mailorder and offers a comprehensive catalogues of MP3 and FLAC audio files for download.

Purveyor of Quality Reggae, Funk and Jazz: Honest Jon’s

Honest Jons on London’s Portobello Road is a classic. Clash frontman Joe Strummer used to work here. Blur’s Damon Albarn curates releases for the Honest Jons label. You will find Reggae, Soul, Funk, Jazz and the cooler end of the World Music spectrum on Honest Jons website. Seriously, this is the place for Calypso, Ethiopian 70’s Funk or Moroccan tunes on CD or vinyl. Keen prices, too.

Vinyl Junkie Heaven: Phonica

If you can’t bear the thought that you’re not the first in your ‘hood to have the latest 12″ singles from around the world, then check this site out. ‘Live’ updates of what’s just been unpacked by the guys in the warehouse are Phonica’s unique feature. The display of recommended records on Phonica’s homepage changes literally every hour. This is a top site for New Disco, Mashups, DJ Edits and anything dancey. Prices can be steeper here than on other UK sites, but they are often the first to stock a particular new release and regularly have 12″s and 7″s you won’t get anywhere else.
