Mark Pritchard & Om’mas Keith ‘Wind It Up’

Whoa, here’s a bit of a potential R&B Dubstep crossover hit. ‘Wind It Up’ is a big tune combining US slickness with UK leftfield vibes in a massive Transatlantic mash-up.

US producer Om’mas Keith has taken time out from working on P Diddy’s new album to hook up with UK drum and bass and hip hop veteran Mark Pritchard. The result is the single ‘Wind It Up’ which bumps and grinds around a freak dub hop rhythm like Beyonce on shrooms.

Om’Mas is part of the Sa-Ra Creative Partners production team, which has racked up R&B and Hip Hop hits since 2000 with artists like Jurassic 5 and Pharoahe Monch Pritchard. Briefly signed to Kanye West’s label, Sa-Ra have just released their full length debut album ‘Nuclear Evolution: The Story Of Love’ for Ubiquity, featuring Erykah Badu and funky Jazz legend Gary Bartz.

Pritchard made some leftfield Drum ‘n’ Bass classics together with Tom Middleton back in the mid-90s and most recently released instrumental hip hop under the name Harmonic 313 on Warp Records.

For my money, ‘Wind It Up’ manages to get the best out of both Om’mas and Pritchard. The quality control department of Dubstep label Hyperdub probably has a finger in there somewhere as well. Let’s hope there’s more in the pipeline from this partnership.

This bad baby of a tune is due to be released on 27th July on 12″ vinyl and as a MP3 download.
