Om manage to shape lazy, meditative songs out of heavy drums and walls of distortion. Call it Stoner Rock or New Metal, ‘Pilgrimage’ is worth a listen if you are looking for fresh rock music.
The vibe on ‘Pilgrimage’ is steady and relaxed yet everything is on full power. It’s droning metal sludge-fest somewhere between early Black Sabbath and legendary US noise rockers The Swans. Om only use two instruments to get this sound: a drum kit and an electric bass. There are no guitars at work here.
US punk legend Steve Albini of Big Black fame is responsible for the production. He creates a delicate balance between pastoral silence and power: ’Pilgrimage’ is like finding yourself in the eye of the hurricane waiting for the full force of the wind to hit you any minute.
