Richard Swift ‘Richard Swift As Onasis’

The man who can write the sharpest lyrics around has decided to dumb it down with a proper rock’n'roll album. A choice soundtrack to sitting in a greasy spoon cafe over a steaming mug of tea and a fry up.

Sorry, Richard, I love 60s garage rock and 50s rockabilly but I am not sure that I desparately need to add our album to my collection. There are other revivalists who rock harder and add a touch of flamboyance at the same time, such as The Cramps, Tav Falco or Alex Chilton. If I want no-pretense trashy garage rock, I’d get something by Billy Childish, like the albums he recorded with The Milkshakes or any of his current stuff.

OK, I like songs like ‘Field Painting’ and ‘Du(m)b II’ on this album, but where are the lyrics that made your last album ‘Dressed Up For The Letdown’ so special?

P.S. Dear reader, if you are new to garage rock or any of the music discussed above, do check this album out. It makes a good starting point for anybody who likes raw guitar jams. If that’s not your cup of tea, go straight to Richard’s 2007 album ‘Dressed Up For The Letdown’, a remarkable exercise in Soft Rock cleverness with a touch of Marc Bolan added for good measure.

Listen to Swift’s ‘Onasis’ and download the album from iTunes. Also try Swift’s far superior ‘Dressed Up For The Letdown’ and download it from the iTunes Store.
