The Zutons ‘You Can Do Anything’
If you think you hear Status Quo blaring out of open car windows this summer, don’t worry, it’s probably just ‘Always Right Behind You’ by The Zutons.
Few bands can play old-fashioned rock music without sounding, well, old. The Zutons get away with it most of the time.
‘Freak’, a song about male prostitution, is as streetwise as any song you might pick up in a Brooklyn bar. The chilled, mid-tempo groove on ‘Little Red Book’ adds a folky 1960s moment to the album. The latter might owe a bit to the Liverpool band recording their album in Los Angeles and dabbling with the local music history.
Then there are the Stadium Rock moments, like ‘What’s Your Problem’ with its hint of Springsteen and the aforementioned Quo guitar riff feast ‘Always Right Behind You’. The latter is the first single off the album. Mind you, both songs are catchy. The production is slick but punchy, thanks to Black Crowes and Johnny Cash producer George Drakoulias twiddling the knobs.
What you get is an album of solid mainstream rock that will often make you wonder where you heard it before. But then, familiarity is part of many an album becoming a personal favourite.
Listen to ‘You Can Do Anything’ and download the album with an exclusive bonus track from iTunes.

I’m sure the Rolling Stones and Tom Waits alike secretly nod in approval. Mean and lean, spiced up by occasional distortion, Seasick Steve is worth a spin if you are into Alternative Country or New Folk. [...]
