Irish band House Of Dolls play their own brand of Psychedelic drone rock that will kick out the cobwebs from your speakers.
We are talking big guitars, loads of feedback and primal drum beats here. The kind of sound that you will dig if you at any stage of your life were addicted to Loop, Spaceman 3, My Bloody Valentine or the Jesus & Mary Chain. Just like their musical influences, House Of Dolls know that simplicity rules. Simple chords repeated over and over like a mantra make for a tripped out sound.
Sticking with the less is more formula, House Of Dolls new single ‘Gimme Some Glory’ c/w ‘Before She Wakes’ stakes out the musical territory these guys from Dublin roam with two no-nonsense songs.
‘Gimme Some Glory’ is a mid-tempo psych rocker that couples massive guitar chords with a sing-a-long rock’n'roll chorus. House Of Dolls play freely with their influences here, joining the dots between the minimal 60’s rock of Iggy Pop’s Stooges and the even more pared down 80’s drone of Spacemen 3.
‘Before She Wakes’ takes the tempo down to a menacing growl. A primal beat played on the big stand tom sets the mood and the melody peels off slowly from a wall of guitar feedback. Fans of Scottish drone rockers Jesus & Mary Chain should check this one out.
Both tracks were recorded by Tom Schwoll of German Punk band Jingo De Lunch in Berlin and mixed in Austin, Texas, by Jason Buntz who previously worked with Trail Of Dead. The band’s line-up for these sessions was: Staf on bass and lead vocals, Stuey on guitar, C. Paxton on guitar and synthesiser and Andy Parker on drums.
