Rock ‘n’ Roll wisdom says you gotta rack up those miles on the road and play every night if you wanna get anywhere. If that’s what it takes, then Third Smoke are on the way to make it big. Galway, Cork, Limerick, Dublin and every possible stop inbetween - the guys from Dundalk are arguably the heaviest touring band in Ireland these days. No battle of the bands without Third Smoke popping up in the line-up and you’ll likely catch them playing support to your local heroes as well. Some of their more recent support slots include Ham Sandwich and John Shelly and the Creatures.
Got live if you want it, to slip in the title of an old Stones live album, and Third Smoke sure work the stage. Their repertoire is very well tailored to the live setting with self-confessed influences including the Dandy Warhols, Kings of Leon and Kasabian. Frontman Hugh Donlon and his pals will have you sing along and wave your arms and cigarette lighters in the air after a couple o’ songs.
Third Smoke have just self-released their debut EP “Tell a Friend”, which features four well worn-in live favourites led by the stompin’ ‘Dog Rough Dancing’. Mind you, ‘Delirious’, ‘Metaphysics’ and ‘Sticks And Stones’ are pretty solid as well. This is frenetic guitar driven stuff with sudden changes that throw you off guard and some clean hooks zooming in out of left field. Whether you come to this EP as a fresh faced indie kid, a seasoned summer festival survivor or a grizzly rock veteran, there’s something here for everybody.
